A local legend involving a man adorned in bandages attacking necking teenagers in parked cars, hitching rides on the backs of pickup trucks, and eating pets.

In Depth:

This local legend involves a man adorned from head to toe in bandages that likes to attack teenagers in the act of 'parking', hitching rides in the back of trucks, and eating pet dogs and cats. The reason for this behavior is unknown.

He always appears along the same stretch of road along Highway 101, just north of the town Cannon Beach, supposedly hiding out in an abandoned garbage dump in the area.

According to some versions of the story, the so-called "Bandage Man" used to be a lumberjack killed in a horrific logging accident sometime in the 1950s or 60s, but returned as some sort of vengeful spirit or monster after the ambulance taking his body to the hospital was caught in a landslide. While no records of such a landslide exists, several lumberjack deaths had occurred in the area in that time frame.

Sightings of the Bandage Man have occurred as recently as 2005 (unless you count an even more recent ghost-like encounter in a dream.)
