In Depth: A brig named the Blanco set sail for Coos Bay from San Francisco in 1894, but ended up lost at sea. Supposedly, the ship wrecked far north of its destination near Siletz Bay, and remnants of a ship were able to seen in the bay until the 1960s. The remains of the ship got stuck in the sand and mud for a month before it was reported in the newspapers in the area, and by the time that news had circulated very little was known about what had happened as the crew and ship's cargo was long gone.
