Picture generated with AI Location: Kerala, India Dates Active: July 25, 2001 Category: Extraterrestrials, Strange Weather Cause: Microalgae Status: Closed Entry ID: 011624G-00033 Summery:   Initial tests on a 2-month-long bout of blood rain concludes that it may have an extraterrestrial origin. The reality is a little bit closer to home. In Depth: Red rain and hail fell to the ground in Kerala, covering an extremely large area and having continuing reports as much as 2 months after the first event. Initial tests had scientists convinced that the reason for the red color of the rain had some sort of extraterrestrial origin, such as an evaporated comet or meteor that had fragmented upon entering Earth's atmosphere. It was later discovered that the rain had gotten its red color from Trentepohlia, an algae that had somehow gotten caught up in the rain clouds before raining back down to Earth. In Depth: Locals in Zamora were surprised when the rain coming down started to turn a bloody red color, inducing rumors that there had been chemical spills, airplanes had dumped unknown poisons, or some sort of biblical plague had found its way into the city. However locals sent samples to the University of Salamanca, where it was tested. It turned out that the rain that poured on the area had a large number of microalgae in it known as Haematococcus pluvialis, which turns red when under extreme stress. It is believed that somehow the microalgae had been picked up by winds or inside the water vapor. Related Entries and Connections : Connections: Strange Weather Last Updated: March 16, 2024

Bird Blood Rain

Picture generated with AI Location: Messignadi, Calabria, Italy Dates Active: May 15, 1890 Category: Strange Weather, Weird Animal Events Cause: Unknown Status: Closed Entry ID: 011624B-00028 Summery:   The blood of migratory birds rains down on an unsuspecting town, reasons unknown. In Depth: No one knows exactly what caused it, but a small town in Italy was suddenly bombarded with a shower of crimson blood. The townsfolk understandably freaked out over the quick sprinkling of red liquid, and tests were immediately ran in an attempt t discover its origin. The Italian Meteorological Bureau oversaw the tests, which determined that the rain was actual blood of migratory birds. What kind of birds was not known as it was significantly too early for any attempts at DNA testing, but the official explanation was that the flock of birds must have been caught in and ripped apart by a sudden, strong wind. No bodies (or body parts) of birds were ever found. Related Events and Connection...

In Depth: Striking pictures of crimson puddles and red-colored cars started circulating online when a stint of otherwise normal rainy weather around the Nadezhdinsky nickle and copper processing plant turned to what appeared to be blood. Of course, this time there was a rather mundane answer as to what all this red stuff was. Instead of being some biblical plague or toxic chemical leak, it was the remnants of a rust removal cleaning at the plant. Piles of rust dust and debris had been being prepped for disposal off sight when a strong wind blew portions of their contents all over the cars in the lot, which no one would have probably noticed until the rain started mixing with the rust, turning it blood red.
