The sudden appearance of blood-red rain startles locals.

In Depth:

Striking pictures of crimson puddles and red-colored cars started circulating online when a stint of otherwise normal rainy weather around the Nadezhdinsky nickle and copper processing plant turned to what appeared to be blood. Of course, this time there was a rather mundane answer as to what all this red stuff was.

Instead of being some biblical plague or toxic chemical leak, it was the remnants of a rust removal cleaning at the plant. Piles of rust dust and debris had been being prepped for disposal off sight when a strong wind blew portions of their contents all over the cars in the lot, which no one would have probably noticed until the rain started mixing with the rust, turning it blood red.
