In Depth:
Crater Lake is home to its own lion share of strange stories, one of this involves Wizard Island located in the middle of the lake. The island has rumored to be home to spirits with legends stemming from Native American cultures. Supposedly these spirits would light ghostly fires at night, which could be spotted from the rim of the lake. Investigations to the island have never found any evidence of any such fires.
One such story involved Ranger Janet Kirwan, who claimed to have spotted a bonfire with ten people dancing around it. She made her way to confront the illegal campers, but when she reached the spot where she had seen the fire no one was around and no evidence of a fire could be found. After informing her partner, the two performed a search to see if they could find anything, but no one was found. They later realized that where the fire had been located was the site of a former campground named Cold Spring.
