In Depth: The Horse Shoe Brewery was built in 1764 at the end of Tottenham Street at the junction of Oxford Street, in London, England, the site which is currently occupied by the Dominion Theater. It wasn't the best neighborhood at the time, being smack dab in the middle of a "rookery": tightly packed slums and houses around nearby St. Giles's Church, which housed many poor families, the majority of whom were Irish immigrants. Despite it's surroundings the brewery was very well off. The Great Molasses Flood

Image
Picture generated with AI Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America Dates Active: January 15, 1919 Category: Mass Deaths, Unnatural Disasters Cause: Structural Failure Status: Closed Entry ID: 011724E-00038 Summery:   21 people were killed when a tank of molasses in Boston burst. In Depth: A holding tank at the Purity Distilling Company burst open at its base, resulting in a warm, sticky wave of fermenting molasses to come cascading through the busy afternoon streets of Boston. The wave enveloped everything in its path at a blistering 35 miles per hour, destroying an elevated train track and encasing dozens of people in brown goo. Because of the frigid weather, the surface of the molasses quickly hardened, dooming anyone unlucky enough to have been swept underneath to suffocation. In total, 21 people were killed and over 150 people were injured. Related Entries and Connections : Connections: Mass Deaths Connections: Unnatural Disasters Last Update: Ma...

Picture generated with AI Location: Dublin, Ireland, United Kingdom Dates Active: June 18, 1875 Category: Mass Deaths, Unnatural Disasters Cause: Fire Status: Closed Entry ID: 011724C-00036 Summery:   A fire at a malt house caused the death of 13 people, but not in the way you'd think. In Depth: When Malone's Malt House and storehouse caught fire and caused some 5,000 barrels of whiskey to burst into streets along Chamber Street in Dublin. The whiskey spread around the area, ankle deep in many places, attracting the attention of Dublin's citizens. Many people started collecting the spirit using whatever they could find, even scooping it up in their own boots and drinking it right then and there. The fire itself didn't hurt anyone, but in the aftermath of it all 13 people ended up dying because of the event. All 13 of those deaths were attributed to alcohol poisoning.
