A fire at a malt house caused the death of 13 people, but not in the way you'd think.

In Depth:

When Malone's Malt House and storehouse caught fire and caused some 5,000 barrels of whiskey to burst into streets along Chamber Street in Dublin. The whiskey spread around the area, ankle deep in many places, attracting the attention of Dublin's citizens. Many people started collecting the spirit using whatever they could find, even scooping it up in their own boots and drinking it right then and there.

The fire itself didn't hurt anyone, but in the aftermath of it all 13 people ended up dying because of the event. All 13 of those deaths were attributed to alcohol poisoning.
