Locals start to panic when rain starts to turn to blood.

In Depth:

Locals in Zamora were surprised when the rain coming down started to turn a bloody red color, inducing rumors that there had been chemical spills, airplanes had dumped unknown poisons, or some sort of biblical plague had found its way into the city.

However locals sent samples to the University of Salamanca, where it was tested. It turned out that the rain that poured on the area had a large number of microalgae in it known as Haematococcus pluvialis, which turns red when under extreme stress. It is believed that somehow the microalgae had been picked up by winds or inside the water vapor.
