Lithia Park has had a long history of supernatural experiences.
In Depth:
When it was first opened in 1908, Lithia Park was only a small patch of land, but eventually grew inside to a nearly 100 acre park with duck ponds and streams, walking paths, a Japanese garden, a playground, and a bandshell. It even had a zoo and campgrounds at one time, but those days have long since passed. However, the park is also home to a few dark secrets, including stories of numerous ghosts haunting the grounds.
One such ghost appears to roam about the entirety of the park, supposedly belonging to a young woman or girl who was murdered in the area sometime in the late 1800s (some fingering the exact year being 1875.) This young woman was raped and murdered somewhere in the vicinity of where the duck pond now sits. Records of who this girl was, let alone any record of the crime itself, has been reduced to little more than hearsay.
However, it is her spirit that is said to appear in the park, sometimes as a dim blue light hovering over the waters of the pond, sometimes as disembodied voices whispering in the night along the trails, and even up to misty apparitions walking through the parking lots and streets that run along side the park. These happenings have been reported for decades, usually having multiple witnesses.
One such story includes a group a college students that decided to go for a drive around the city in the middle of the night in the 1970s, and ended up driving along one of the roads that leads around the park. As they went along a blue mist suddenly appeared in front of their car. Unable to stop or get out of the way in time, the car ran right through the mist. As they drove through, everyone in the care reported a drop in temperature with resolved as soon as they made it out of the other side of the strange mist.
In a more recent occurrence, a woman took her two daughters to the park late one night by following the path recommended by her GPS device. The GPS took her to a back entrance to the park somewhere around the duck ponds. When they got out of their car they began to hear footsteps even though no one else was around. One daughter than heard a voice call out for help, frightening the group enough to cause them to leave. As they left in their vehicle, they claimed they saw a young girl in a white dress. The next morning, the woman decided to go back and check out the park again, but this time they were unable to get the GPS to take them to the any other park entrance other than the main one. Despite their best efforts they could not find the entrance they had entered the night before.
