The ghost of former prostitutes as well as a bouncer haunt this former brothel, occasionally frightening patrons and employees alike.
In Depth:
The Red Onion Saloon was originally built in 1898 as a brothel during the Klondike Gold Rush. The two story building has been many things since that time, including as a dance hall, an army barracks, a bakery, a laundry, a union hall, a gift shop, and even a television station, but has been reopened as a saloon and museum giving tours and providing history of its racy origins.
It is supposedly haunted by the ghost of two of the prostitutes of the brothel, one named Lydia and another named Diamond Lil. There is also a male ghost that some believe to be one of the brothel's bouncers. Activity includes the smell of perfume, cold spots, objects disappearing and reappearing in strange places, whispers, touching, the sound of footsteps down the hallways, and even full body apparitions. Both guests and staff had reported encounters, including one such instance where the police were called on a potential intruder.
