In Depth:

Three suspects lead seven neighbors and family members at knifepoint into the street of a village and forced them to strip naked. Some of the victims were injured in the altercation when they resisted, and when the victims did as ordered the three perpetrators burned all of the clothes.

Police were called onto the scene, where they immediately disarmed the suspects and brought them to the police station. They later told police that they did not remember the incident at all, claiming that they had been possessed by a ghost known as a phi pob, and that they had only been doing what it wanted of them.

The police charged all three suspects with physical assault, unlawful coercion and unlawful detention, but were granted bail, and were allowed to seek an exorcism from a local necromancer.

A phi pob is a type of evil spirit that can hold power over humans, manifesting itself from within a living person until it decides to leave, and from there it can possess another host (usually a woman.) Once in possession of a new host it acts like a parasite, eating their entrails from within while bringing sickness to others around them, killing and eating livestock, and otherwise producing bad luck for the community as a whole.
