Summery:

A ghost ship has been spotted several times over the centuries heading straight for - and over - the beach in Porthcurno.

In Depth:

With sightings dating back to the 17th century, this ghost ship has been spotted numerous times sailing into and through the beach near Porthcurno, over the land. It was said that some sort of tragedy would befall anyone who saw it.

It is described as a black ship, with anywhere from 1 to 4 masts, always appearing at nightfall, and no crew has ever been spotted aboard despite sailing across the ground near accessible areas.

Some believe that it is the specter of a pirate ship that had wrecked somewhere off the beach in a storm, and was said to have something to do with a man and his servant that would keep a boat at Porthcurno Cove. Rumors swirled that they were either pirates, privateers, or American buccaneers. The story goes that they would go out on their boat in the morning and only would return at night, and that the ghost ship would follow soon after. Once the man passed away the servant vanished without a trace, and with him so did the ghost ship... for a while.
